Mast controls Bose SoundTouch systems on your own local wifi network. It is designed to use as little of your data as technically possible.

This website

This website collects no personal data for marketing or tracking and sets no cookies for analytics or advertising. Our hosting provider keeps technical server logs (IP address, browser type, request time) for the security and operation of the site; these are deleted after 7 days. The same provider also produces aggregate visit statistics for us — page views, referring sites, countries — which set no cookies, store nothing on your device and identify no one. Legal basis for both: our legitimate interest in a secure website and in understanding how it is used (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). If you email us, we process what you send solely to answer your question.

The Mast app

What we collect

Nothing is ever sent to us, and there is no account. The app has no backend server, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking of any kind.

The only data the app stores is kept locally on your device, so it remembers your setup between launches: your speaker's local IP address, a list of speakers it has seen before (device ID/MAC address, name, IP), your favorite stations (up to 100), recently played stations, a snapshot of your last speaker group, cached station suggestions for your country, and your language, country and theme preferences. None of it ever leaves your device, and you can erase all of it by deleting the app.

Network connections

• Your speaker — the app talks directly to your Bose SoundTouch system over your local network to control playback, volume, grouping and presets.
• radio-browser.info — when you search for a station, the app queries the public radio-browser.info directory. It also asks it for popular stations in your country (roughly once a day) and uses it to resolve station logos. Only your search text, station names and a two-letter country code are sent; no identifiers are attached.
• Station streams and logos — audio is fetched by the speaker itself; logo images are loaded from the stations' own servers or public radio-logo directories (the built-in Belgian stations use logos from static.mytuner.mobi).

Permissions

Local Network (iOS) / Wi-Fi state (Android) — used solely to discover and reach your speaker on your wifi. On iPhone, iOS 14 and later route all traffic to a local address through this permission, so Mast needs it for everything — automatic discovery and a manually entered IP alike. Denied it? Turn it back on under Settings → Apps → Mast → Local Network.

Your rights

You have the right of access, correction and erasure, and you can lodge a complaint with the Belgian Data Protection Authority (gegevensbeschermingsautoriteit.be).
